SAM ROBERTS BAND-LO-FANTASY-BIG SONGS, AND INTELLLIGENT WORDPLAY=BIG HIT-REVIEW BY JOHN EMMS

sr baND1

Undeniably catchy and very radio friendly Lo-Fantasy the new album by the Sam Roberts Band can’t miss.

On tracks like the modern vibe of Angola, and the big chorus songs like We’re All In This Together as well as the opening track Shapeshifters the band hits on all cylinders.

Elsewhere, there is a Cars-like ambience to Human Heat and Metal Skin while the excellent mid tempo Never Enough and the sunny vibe of  Too Far are steeped in the band’s own classic rock sound.

Underneath all of this Roberts’ lyrical value and the band’s dynamics get more detailed on repeated listens.

In the end the band is moving into new soundscapes without sacrificing their credibility.

Kind of the best of both worlds.

This cd is due out Feb `11 2014
