DAVID CROSBY-CROZ-“CROZ RULES THE HEART AND THE HEAD-CD REVIEW JOHN EMMS

Pristine, heartfelt and above all loaded with excellent songs David Crosby’s new album Croz is a major triumph.

At 72 years old and undergoing heart surgery Crosby, his son James Raymond, along with major vocal and guitar work from Marcus Eaton have crafted an album of textured jazz influenced songs that are inspired and accessible.

On songs such as What’s Broken featuring Mark Knopfler , the powerful Set that Baggage Down and the superb feel of The Clearing Crosby and the band offer a very wide musical spectrum with a killer mix from Daniel Garcia.

Despite his age Crosby’s vocal work is endearing and of very high quality. Holding On To Nothing, the eerie If She Called and the excellent Time I Have are of reminders his intelligence and musical vision.

As usual Crosby uses strange chord changes and open tunings but they work remarkably well.

Crosby’s heart condition has resulted in a number of his new album tour dates to be cancelled for now, but this album is a high water mark without a doubt.

Yes it’s that good!
